Diana's Point - Week 1 Afternoon Teen SessionsThis week I got to work with teens during Markeim’s brand new teen camp for kids ages 12 to 18. This camp is more of a place for adolescents to get studio time with an outlined project that are more in depth and challenging than a basic project. There wasn’t a lot of cleaning up to do afterwards which was sometimes kind of boring. I didn’t get to help out as much as when I worked with the little kids because the older ones already had brilliant ideas for their projects. Even though there was not a lot of physical work (cleaning, organizing) to do, it was interesting to see how creative the teens were. They would be working on a project that seemed somewhat simple, but the kids would still think very hard about their color selection and placement before doing anything. One of the first projects they worked on was a shaving cream project where they would put a mountain of shaving cream on their paper and then sprinkle and spread paint through it. This, when scraped off would leave a tie dye effect on the page. The other project they did was they used bubbles to create the outlines of circles along their pages which they later filled in. Another project they began involved water colors. By using a straw, they would blow the water color anywhere they wanted to and create interesting and varying lines. Using pastel and water paint, they worked with blocks of color by mixing the mediums in a unique way. All the teens really focused on their work and showed a lot of effort and passion in their projects.
