On Tuesday the kids made 3D dinosaurs. We had them paint two toilet paper rolls cut to about 2in green for the feet. While they dried the kids coloured a paper dinosaur with oil pastels the way that they wanted them. Their imaginations ran wild with the colours they chose to make their dinosaur. When we put the dinosaur together for the kids they were so excited to name them and play with them. I think this was the favourite craft of the week.
On Wednesday the kids painted a background to paste the silhouettes of dinosaurs onto. We had them use water color to paint onto the paper for a softer feel and so the silhouettes of the dinosaurs would pop. After painting the paper and pasting the dinosaurs we had the kids draw hills under the dinosaurs so they didn't look like floating objects.
On Thursday we took this kids out on a nature walk to find objects to paint with like the cavemen. We had them collect things like rocks, sticks, and leaves. We wanted the kids to act as if they were actual cavemen and cavewomen back in the prehistoric time.
On Friday the kids made cave drawings from tracing their hands and their own creativity. We had them use all different shades of brown oil pastels to create the cave drawings and make them look authentic. The second half of the day we had the kids watch a movie called the Croods which was based of the prehistoric time. We watched about 20 to 30 minutes of the movie and then had the kids draw a couple of the characters from the movie.
