This week, Ms. Perman focused on having the students explore their senses and learn about their bodies by expressing themselves visually. On Thursday, they did a watercolor project and learned to about color layering and theory.

Ashly, an upcoming junior at Cherry Hill West High School worked last week as an intern in the afternoon. She had a lot of responsibility being mostly in charge in the PM camp, and learned a lot about the kids. She gives us a play by play in her weekly blog entry:
With everything from medieval castles and classical painters, the campers this week bonded over their shared appreciation of the old world. We spent lunch bunch giggling and making one another crowns and fairy wands. We waited all week to make our very own knight in (aluminum foil) shining armor. And, we created our own royal flush with life size playing cards. This week we proved that sometimes, repeating history isn't too bad.
In Markeim we learn a lot about art and of course showing that art almost seen in everything. For instance we showed the kids about art being present outside, in nature. This week's theme is called "Into the Outdoors."
The kids each did their own project by printing nature's materials with ink. There are some materials that they used to help them accomplish this project. Such as, using ink, rollers, foam sheets, cardboard, large white framing paper, scissors, glue sticks, pieces of nature from outside that they gathered up. But before they were able to start the project, we took the kids for a walk around to block so they can pick their favorite form of nature and keenly observe many natural things. When the kids were outside gathering materials we put them in pairs, so that they dont get lost. Afterwards, the kids all shared their findings with and to the class. The kids found some beautiful flowers, leaves, twigs, and a lot of acorns! They enjoyed every moment of this exotic project! Written by Sean Richards, AM Kids Art Camp Intern at Markeim. I have recently been working on gathering contact information for New Jersey Art Educators. I am gathering contact information for their art show sometime this coming Fall of 2013. There was a previous list on Constant Contact but that was not enough since it is out of date. Some e-mail addresses were not used anymore and some teachers do not work in the schools they used to teach before. Gathering each teacher's information is different for each school district and even schools. Sometimes it is easy as their e-mail addresses are just listed on their sites, sometimes it is required to use Outlook, sometimes it is required to e-mail them first via their e-boards, and sometimes their e-mail addresses are not even on the school's website.
Sometimes I am really frustrated because some of the district and school websites are hard to navigate: their website too messy or they have another term for "Staff Contact". However, I mostly find the e-mail addresses in the end except if they don't actually display it. I completely understand if teachers don't want their e-mail addresses displayed on the web. Spam is tiring to deal with and sometimes people randomly e-mail about things they aren't interested at all. However, the idea for an art show for NJ Art Educators is very exciting to me. These people are busy teaching other people art that they sometimes don't have time for their own. It is also enjoying to see their pieces altogether in one gallery, you can clearly see how different each teacher's art style is even though they teach the same thing to students like they are students themselves. This art show will benefit all of these NJ Art Educators as it might also inspire them to do more or start doing something for themselves. Also, Art Educators are not appreciated enough since people think they teach easier lessons to children but that is not true at all. My name is Keina and I am a AM Admin Intern here at Markeim Arts Center. I work with Ms. Liz and Ms. Kelly. I am going to be a junior at Cherry Hill High School West. I enjoy photography (mostly landscape) and traveling. Children love to play outdoors and after the first day of the great outdoors, adventure still awaits us! Everyone loves doing their own stuff outdoors, such as swimming, riding a bike, walking and running. And so inspired by this idea, we decided to make a cool project. This project was about making a sculpture about the things the kids did outdoors. we had beutiful backgroung papers to help represent their activities more clearly, which was qiute effective! And after the bckgrounds were chosen, they had to create themselves and the people they were with during a particular scene and activity. thereafter, gluing them but with effects that made the pictures pop out as if they were real (3D).
" I loved all of their projects and all of them were successful. Their special effects were made more special because they started experimenting on how to make it more realistic!! I loved their imagination and was startled after knowing about the boundaries these kids have broken towards creativity". This article is written by Sanobar Lala, an intern at the art camp!! :) So today we made a big flow chart that represents the growth in nature. The children drew on their paper according to their choice and thereafter filled beautiful colors in them with watercolors!!The bright sun is out and off we are to the outdoors. Today's project is based on the understanding of growth and nature of the great outdoors. Children learn about the prospects of growth and learn to appreciate it by designing creative drawings.
" I think that the kids really enjoyed this process of growth and took deep interest in it and at the same time were learning about growth and how it develops in nature. I just saw them laughing and mixing up with the instructors while giving great examples about growth. Well they are children and they love art and with that being said, they made wonderful flowcharts". Hi, my name is Sanobar and i am a sweet and helpful intern at the Markeim arts centre. I am going to be a sophomore at the Cherry Hill East High School and i love to spend time and help the kids by just trying to be their friend. Makeim is a great place to come to and dont worry because your kids are in good hands. |
