Ashly, a Cherry Hill West Sophomore, helps Donna in the clay studio as kids learn the art of throwing on the wheel
- This week I had the opportunity to work with Ms.Donna in her pottery class. The kids learned how to make pots throughout the entire week. On the first day the teacher taught them everything they needed to know to be able to be successful that week in her class. She showed the kids all the steps on how to make pots out of clay using the wheel and they got to do it themselves. They had trouble at first remembering all the different steps on how to make a pot but the teacher and I helped assist them. The first day was okay but the kids had a hard time making the pots. The next day the kids memorized the steps to making a good pot but they still had questions so I helped them out. They also learned how to trim their pieces and were taught how to use new tools. The last two days were a lot better. They knew all the steps to pot making and didn’t ask for much help. The kids improved a lot from their first to last day. They all enjoyed pottery class; it was a fun experience for them and for me as well. I loved helping them and watching them improve every day. Pottery class is a very peaceful and calm class that anyone can enjoy.
- Also, a little anecdote from this week: A girl named Grace was making her pot and out of nowhere she started laughing. The teacher thought she was crying but she was laughing. It was so funny. All the kids started laughing. It was a great week!
